Bad skincare

The sad fact about having a great youthful looking and radiant skin is that it is something to be worked on daily. You cannot with spurts of activity look after your skin, only to neglect it again for the next couple of days.

bas skincare

This goes for men as well as women, since the days that an unkempt, scruffy and craggy look for men was considered manly, is no longer the norm for any man that wants to succeed in life.

This does not mean that you have to follow complicated skincare when you are roughing it while camping, or that you have to become fixated on your skincare regimen.

But it does mean that you have to stick to your routine religiously - every single day - no matter how tired you are or if you are running late.

Your skincare regime need not take up hours of your time and if you have neglected it in the past, it may take 2 - 3 weeks before you see the positive results from daily care.

We were all born with a perfect, smooth skin, free of wrinkles, but due to disregard for skincare, or non-care lifestyles, we stress our skin, and are then left with an uneven looking complexion with wrinkles and lines.

A youthful looking skin can be achieved with consistent care, and nourishing the dermis and epidermis will assist with the elasticity of the skin, and will promote a blemish-free skin.

It has been proven that good skincare can retard and help rejuvenate old tired looking skin.

Although make-up and covering-up-type of cosmetics may be useful, they can never replace an essentially healthy skin, which glows with vitality.

The skin is a wonderful barometer of our health, and although good skincare will go a long way in helping us preserve youth and vitality, we also need to look after the body to achieve this anti-ageing look.

While wrinkles form easier on dry skin, hereditary factors also add insult to injury - therefore a healthy vital skin is only achieved when a couple of factors are in sync, but a skin can never look its best without proper skincare.

The basis for a good skincare regimen would include the following and is discussed on this page:

Cleansing

All good skincare regimen begins with proper cleansing. This removes the dirty surface film that the skin picks up from our surroundings, and the more polluted the surroundings, the better the cleansing needs to be.

Please note - we are talking about "better cleansing" not a stronger cleanser that may damage your skin.

To clean the skin, it is best to select a gentle hypoallergenic, pH-balanced cream, lotion or soap, designed to help dissolve surface dirt and any make-up, but without stripping your skin of its acid mantle - which will leave it tight and irritated.

One good cleanser that we can recommend is from Dermaxime - their "Rejuvenating Face Wash" which can be viewed at http://www.dermaxime.com/rej-face-wash.htm.

Toning

The surface of the skin, the stratum corneum or also referred to as the horny layer, is the first line of defense for the skin, keeping bacteria and viruses at bay. The horny layer is acid by nature and is also referred to as the acid mantle.

This acid mantle plays a significant role in warding off the advances of micro organisms and it is therefore important to maintain the integrity of the acid mantle. Loss of mantle integrity may be indicated by excessive dryness or oiliness.

A good toner should assist in restoring the integrity of the acid mantle, calming reactive skin, while it refreshes and removes the last traces of any pollutants or make-up.

Although old-fashioned toners contained alcohol, since people liked the cool sensation that it left the skin with, it is seldom used in modern skincare products, as it dries the skin.

Moisturizing

Daily moisturizing of your skin is required to counteract the internal and external factors contributing to a dry and flaky skin. Should your skin be robbed of its essential moisture, it will contribute to the formation of wrinkles and an uneven complexion.

Exfoliation

The normal life cycle of the cells will result in dead, flattened and keratinized cells which normally detach and shed themselves.

Should there be a build-up of these dead cells, it will result in an uneven and blotchy-looking skin, and for this reason these dead cells should be removed at regular intervals with a gentle exfoliating scrub.

It is not required to be done more than once in 3 weeks, but in extreme cases the frequency can be increased if so advised by your therapist.

Sun protection

You do not only need sun protection when sun bathing as indirect sunlight can also cause burning of the skin - for more on sun skin protection please click here to have a look at our page specifically dealing with this topic.

We have more information on sun protection and tanning on our Dermaxime website, which you can access by clicking here.

Skin treatments

As we age, we need to help our skin to look younger for longer and to fight off the formation of wrinkles.

This is where our Créme de Vie treatment cream is of great value, since it can be used as a normal moisturizer while it still performs it specialized functions.
